Intention

Dear Creative Writing Students,

I am grateful that our paths have crossed in your writing journey. My intention for having a blog space as your final exam is to help you cultivate your web presence as an author. Rather than a traditional final exam, this space can be one that you return to again and again in honor of the work you created this semester. While your posts here are for a grade, I hope that you consider this an authentic celebratory space. It is also my intention that this communal sharing of your work will be a nice closing to the community building began during the first week of class. I encourage you to visit each other's pages and comment on the work or just say "Congratulations!"

The greater intention for this space is to offer a place for us to begin imagining a more inclusive future. Our imaginations can be powerful tools for building a better world. As Octavia Butler taught us this semester, what we can dream for our world can be significant offerings for how to make it better. Toward that end, choose your portfolio pieces thoughtfully, with the greater intention for its existence in mind.

I look forward to reading your work!
